Pray for the President as he prepares for an important State of the Union
address later this month. Pray with the President that our nation will
continue to look forward to 2002 with determination and a resolve to get
back to normal following the September 11th attacks, while remaining on
alert regarding terrorism. Pray for our soldiers serving overseas and
every decision made by military leadership that could put them in harm's
way. Pray that we will remain united as a nation, looking to God for peace
and with confidence for our cause of freedom.
And let's pray for others this week...specifically for the new leader of
Afghanistan, Mr. Hamid Karzai, and the members of the team who form the
interim government. For the first time in decades, more than 26 million
people will have an opportunity to experience religious freedom and
representational government. Pray that God's peace will come to that
nation, and that God will rule Mr. Karzai's decisions and alliances.

PRESIDENTIAL PRAYER REMINDER FOR DECEMBER 21:
As we celebrate Christmas across our nation next week, pray with the
President and his staff that peace will truly come to our world. Pray for
the President and Mrs. Bush and their extended family for a restful and
meaningful Christmas holiday. Give thanks for the good medical report for
the President regarding the removal of non-cancerous lesions from his face.
Pray that the President will use good judgment and receive wise council
regarding both the historical and spiritual legacy he will leave our
nation.
Finally, let us pray and encourage leaders of both business and government
to take a stand for the spiritual significance of this season, not hide it.
Just as Old Glory was unfurled in American pride after September 11, let

PRESIDENTIAL PRAYER REQUESTS FOR THE WEEK OF DECEMBER 16:
This week's prayer requests turn to two areas of deep concern for the
President. First, lift up all those who are affected by the economic
slowdown, that their needs would be met during this holiday season. Pray
for the homeless and the poor. May the generosity of the American people
reach out to those who are less fortunate. Secondly, pray with the
President that the education reforms he holds dear will indeed be enacted
quickly to improve the quality of education for every child.
As the Taliban continue their retreat in response to concerted American
military efforts, pray with the President for the final surrender of every
soldier, commander and leader in the Al-Qaeda network and the quick and
safe return of our military forces once the anti-terrorist campaign is
complete.
Also lift up the President in his ongoing daily schedule, that he will have
wisdom from God as he makes decisions that range from the mundane to the
monumental. Pray for God's anointing on him as he works to guard the
freedom of our nation and our citizens around the world.

On the three-month anniversary of the September 11th attacks, the President
has ordered the National Anthem to be played tomorrow December 11, at
exactly 8:46 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, in honor of the victims. He is
calling on all freedom-loving nations to play their anthems and/or
appropriate tunes at the same time or at an appropriate time, to send a
strong message to all terrorists that the United States will never forget
the victims of the attacks.
We encourage all members of The Presidential Prayer Team to display their
American flag and their Presidential Prayer Team decal, and observe a time
of prayer for the families of those whose lives were lost in the attacks in
New York, Pennsylvania and Washington, D.C.

PRESIDENTIAL PRAYER REQUESTS FOR THE WEEK OF DECEMBER 2:
This week offers an unprecedented opportunity for our nation to come
together to pray for its leaders and for our future. Under a joint
resolution of Congress, December 4th has been designated the National Day
of Reconciliation. From 7:00 PM-9:00 PM, the Rotunda of the Capitol
Building in Washington, D.C., will be the focal point of the event,
hopefully to be attended by many of our elected representatives and
governmental leaders. We urge each member of the Presidential Prayer Team
to have their own time of prayer and thanksgiving and to invite others to
pray with them for our nation.
Pray specifically for the President as he conveys America's sorrow to
Israel in the wake of last weekend's horrific suicide bombings there. Pray
for continued wisdom on the part of the President and military leaders in
regard to other regions of the world that may require military action to
root out known terrorists and destroy terrorist training facilities. Pray
for continued vigilance on the part of all Americans and that we will never
forget those who died at the hands of terrorists on September 11th.
Give thanks this week for the successes that have been achieved in
Afghanistan. We are particularly thankful for the new freedoms that will
now be enjoyed by all Afghan citizens, the minimal number of casualties
America has suffered in Afghanistan, and for the safe return of Christian

Looking At The Heart
The nation of Israel was ruled by judges for over 300 years. The people then cried out for a king: Then we
will be like the other nations. (1
Samuel 8:20). God gave them what they wanted
- He gave them Saul: An impressive young man without equal among the Israelites. (1 Samuel 9:2).
Saul was an impressive looking king, but he failed to obey Gods
instructions. Therefore, God rejected Saul as
king and sent Samuel to anoint a new king from amongst the sons of Jesse. When Samuel arrived at Jesses home, he saw
Eliab and thought for sure he was to be the next king.
1 Samuel 16:7
But the Lord said to Samuel, Do not consider his
appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The
Lord does not look at the things man looks at. Man
looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.
Saul was the type of king the people desired and Samuel assumed the
next king would fit into this same impressive mold - but this king would be
chosen according to Gods criteria. David
would be chosen based on the condition of his heart.
How much time and effort do we expend on the external features of our
life? How much of our life is concerned with
being externally impressive? Lets
take a moment to allow the Word to cut deep and honestly evaluate our priorities. God doesnt look at the external parts of our
life - He looks intently at our heart. Create
in me a pure heart, O God. (Psalm
51:10).
There are very few things in life which have eternal value. And NOTHING outside of Gods Will can survive
the flames of judgment. The priorities that
occupy our life become our treasure - and our treasure defines our heart: Where your
treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew
6:21).
Lets refocus our time and energy. Lets spend less on becoming impressive
in the eyes of the world, and more on storing up treasures in heaven. (Matthew 6:20).
Gods judgment is the only one that will ever matter - and Hes
looking at the heart.
