Eternally Secure

The Word of God gives many assurances about the security of our Salvation.  “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith...not by works.” (Ephesians 2:8).  Our Salvation is not the result of good performance - it is a gift of grace through faith in Jesus Christ.  This means that poor performance will never cause the gift to be removed.

God’s Word says we are given the Holy Spirit, “with whom you were SEALED for the day of redemption.” (Ephesians 4:30).  When we are saved, we are sealed - and the seal cannot be broken.  The Holy Spirit is “a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance.” (Ephesians 1:14).  The Holy Spirit in us guarantees that we will inherit eternal life - and God will definitely honor the guarantee of His Spirit.

People all over the world live in fear of losing their Salvation.   But God does not even give us this option.  When we are saved, we are in effect, purchased with the blood of Jesus and belong to God. “You are not your own; you were bought at a price.” (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).  We must still persevere, but since we belong to the Father, “He will keep you strong to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Corinthians 1:8).

We may go through times when we don’t “feel” saved.   We come down from the mountaintop closeness with God and don’t know what happened.  Did God leave us?  Did we fail Him?  How do we get Him back?   We must be encouraged to continually seek a closer relationship with God, but we must also realize that His love is not based on feelings.

Romans 8:38-39

“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

This list is complete!  When we become God’s Child, NOTHING can separate us from His love: “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5).  We must not place our trust in feelings - they will fail us every time.  Rather, we must trust the One who created our feelings.  If we have truly believed in Jesus for the forgiveness of our sins, we are His - and we are eternally secure.
